About Catherine
Catherine Huo is a 14-year-old classical guitarist from Canada. In 2025, she was awarded Second Prize in the Junior Division of the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Competition, one of the most internationally recognised classical guitar competitions in the world. She has also received First Prizes at the Denver International Guitar Festival & Competition (Youth Division), Chicago Guitar Festival (Junior Division), and Northwest Guitar Festival (Youth Division youngest winner), as well as First Prize at GuitarFest West and First Prize in the Adult Division of the Northwest Guitar Festival (youngest winner in both categories).
She has been invited by Guitar Salon International (GSI) to record performance videos and has been featured by The Vancouver Sun and North Shore News.
In addition to classical guitar, Catherine has received extensive training in dance and has participated in theatre productions, public speaking, and vocal performance. She is fluent in English, French, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.
Catherine began studying classical guitar at the age of four with her father. She has studied with Alec Pearson and TY Zhang, and has received guidance from Juilliard School professor Sharon Isbin. She is currently studying with Alan Liu and has also received instruction from internationally renowned guitarists including Bokyung Byun, Michael Partington, Daniel Bolshoy, Jonathan Leathwood, and Leonela Alejandro.
